I’m Pretty Sure I Don’t Deserve This…

17Jan12

Dear Readers,

First of all, please forgive my absence as of late. I have been far too busy scolding neighbors for not taking down their Christmas decorations early enough and realising what a huge nerd I am that I haven’t had a chance to post in a while. For that, I do apologise. I know that you’re all just on the edge of your seats, awaiting a new post, right guys? Right?  *Cricket cricket*

Well, I have a new post that I’ll put up tomorrow, but, in the meantime, I wanted to write this very thankful and heartfelt post today. You see, for some reason, I was given the Versatile Blogger award. I have no idea why…I don’t deserve that kind of credit. I’m terrible at this blogging stuff, and I’m pretty sure most people don’t care what I have to say, but, as I said, for some reason, blondegirl008 has bestowed this honour on me. She’s some kind of crazy, isn’t she? 😉 Actually, she’s pretty awesome and hilarious, so feel free to drop by her place.

Anyway, I just wanted to say a VERY big thank you to her, and to all of you who actually take the time to read my blog (and even those of you who just skim through to look at the pictures and read the captions underneath. C’mon…I know there are a few of you who do that. Admit it) and comment. You have no idea how thankful I am for you…it warms this little clumsy ninja’s heart to know that there are people that care what she has to say, even if the people she sees every day make fun of her to no end…usually for being so clumsy. And for calling herself a ninja. And for being quite a nerd.

Just a photo of a regular Saturday night for me

Anyway, I guess with this award, I’m supposed to let you in on a few unknown (at least to you all) things about myself…here are the top 7:

  1. I can’t sleep if my bedroom door is open. I have no idea why. It just freaks me out. Probably because I think that the monsters are out in the hallway, just waiting for their chance to get me.
  2. I like every single vegetable that exists. Seriously. There isn’t one sort of vegetable that I don’t like. (Hmm…perhaps I should venture out and try something other than carrots and potatoes?)
  3. I play piano and [mediocre] guitar. I like to sit in my room in the dark with my guitar and write music. Yeah, I’m all emo like that.
  4. When I was younger, one of my many nicknames was “Gobstopper Eyes” because my eyes change colour the closer to my pupil you get…like Gobstoppers. Yeah, I know. Weird, right?
  5. I’m afraid of Virginia Woolf. There’s just something about her work that has always freaked me out.
  6. I have a hard time watching a TV show or movie that lasts longer than 26 minutes. That’s it. That’s the cut-off point for me.
  7. I am not Sebastian Vettel‘s girlfriend. For some unknown reason, this is one of the most common phrases that people search on Google and it brings them to my blog. I just feel like I need to set the record straight here. We are not dating. Hopefully, that’s clear enough.

Apparently, that's kind of what my eye looks like. It's rather frightening, no?

So, after all of that, I’d like to show my gratitude and pure respect for 5 other bloggers whom I’ve had the privilege of getting to know (at least,  in a blogger-to-blogger way) with crazy amounts of talent….much more talent than I could ever hope to have. 🙂

EduClaytion – this guy’s the real deal. I’m such a huge fan of his that, if he sold posters of his face, I would probably buy one.

AnneSchilde – this girl can write short stories like no one else I know! She’s got mad skills, y’all!! (<— I can’t pull that off, can I?)

The Flight of Reason – smart, witty, and says what he thinks. No apologies about it. Love that.

Dear Optimists – honestly, there is no better way to start your day than a quick clip and a cartoon from Den and Nadia. Trust me.

The Good Greatsby – I can’t even explain to you how hilarious this guy is…you just have to see for yourself. 🙂

Thanks again, guys! And I promise I’ll have a new rant frustration-filled post up tomorrow! 😉

Update: Thanks for all the blogger love, guys! I can’t believe that so many people noticed my absence from the blogosphere! So thankful for you all! 😀

you have beautiful green eyes, at close range that is, and you are way too humble.

  2. You are back 😀 I’m happy about that!

You don’t have why to apologise, in christmas, family is the first thing to care about. Don’t even bother about the blog, just enjoy staying with them and enjoying your holiday 🙂

I’m sure that you DO deserve everything, even the versatile blogger award, trust me. If I’m not wrong, the word “versatile” means having many skills, great diversity or variety. So this identifies your blog 🙂

Another curious thing is the next. (:P) You are always saying that the stuff you write or talk about are stuff we don’t need to know or we don’t even care about. In a simple view, that could be true.

However, the way you tell your thoughts, funny stories, ideas or whatever you want to transmit to us through your blog, makes simple things become super interesting things. This is a true skill you got, not everybody can talk about himself or whatever and make it special! Remembeer this 🙂

In fact, to date I haven’t seen one of your posts which wasn’t interesting yet. That must mean something!! 🙂

Regarding to the post, well, the second part of the post, all I can say is that we may share the same fears lol. The point number 1 made me laugh so much !!

(I’ll drop by The Good Greatsby…seems nice!)

Have a nice day! Keep writing

    • Wow, Javi…thank you so much for your very kind words! You are very sweet. 🙂 I guess I’m just always surprised that people would even want to read about what goes on in my life/head, and I assume that it’s extremely uninteresting…lol.

Thanks again, Javi! And I’ll have a proper new post tomorrow! Promise. 😉

  3. Congratulations on your gong, it’s greatly deserved!

If Virginia Woolf’s work freaks you out, let’s hope you don’t run into the zombie version of her during the Apocalypse.

    • Thanks very much, Disseminated! I really don’t think it’s greatly deserved, perhaps just marginally merited, provided that only 1 or less bloggers were nominated as candidates…even under those circumstances, I’m not sure I’d agree with the decision.

Also, if Virginia Woolf’s zombie even tries to come near me, I’ll throw some Prozac at her.

  4. Yay!! Congratulations!!

  5. Nicely written. Love your “life” observations!

    • Well, I figured it was about time that I came clean about my fears of monsters and Virginia Woolf…perhaps they’re one and the same? 😉

      Thanks very much, Jens!

  6. LOL! Now I have to go update my post! Which you should read so you can see how narrowly you missed getting this twice. 🙂

    • Okay so that’s taken care of… now. So I can’t speak for everyone, but I certainly have read most of your blog posts and admired you enough to write myself as a 17-yr-old who risked her job to put Nerds in your ice cream. So there’s that.

Congratulations! When you’ve read mine, you will see that I decided versatility meant people who not only blog, but take the time to comment on other blogs. By that definition, you are as versatile a versatile blogger as ever there was and you so deserve this!

      1. I can’t sleep with mine closed. Pretty sure it has to do with an escape route in case the closet monster comes out.
      2. Haha, I’m starting to know you. I was expecting (a Big Mac is a vegetable, right?)
      3. Oh hey, did you ever click on the picture for Snowy?

That gobstopper looks like a geode formed from a heat compressed 1960s party.

      I missed you. 🙂

      • I appreciate you exposing my nerd-dom to the masses. Your story was amazing (as always!) and made me feel like I am important (my friends and family keep reminding me that I’m not). Thanks so much for your kind words, Annie!

        1. If you sleep with your door open, the hallway monsters come in and they’re much more threatening than closet monsters. Just a warning.
        2. Big Macs are vegetables. (You really do know me well now, don’t you?)
        3. Just clicked on it. Wow…you are ridiculously talented! You actually write fancy music…mine just sounds like the stuff that Britney Spears vetoed post-bald head (not really, but it’s that kind of caliber). Not only are you a talented writer but you’re a brilliant musician as well.

I think they should put that gobstopper in a museum.

        Missed you too. 🙂

    • I’ll do that now! Wow…I really have been away from the blogosphere for entirely too long! Thanks, Annie! 🙂

  7. You don’t have to say that “apologize” stuff. It’s normal for being absence or disappear for a while. We’re not a machine that can be all days here, right? We have another that called real world though isn’t that fun as perhaps, here in the jungle of blogsphere.. lol 😀
Well, just want to say congratulations for that award. 🙂

I enjoy ur blog stuff for sure. Keep up the good work.. 🙂

    • Well, to be honest, I felt badly because I didn’t want people to think that I’d abandoned my blog or something…hence all of the apologising. 🙂

Thanks so much for your kind words, Arasyid! They are very much appreciated! 🙂

  8. 17 Mark Thomas

Happy New Year! I was actually wondering whrere you had got to! I had a similar phase in November (too much travelling and too much teaching!) and had to write a grovelling apology on my blog as well.

Anyway, congrats on your award and good luck for the year to come watching fast cars race around a circuit!

I look forward to reading more from you soon.

    Best,

    Mark

    • Happy New Year to you as well, Mark! Yes, it was a busy season and things just started to pile up, and before I knew it, it had been nearly a month since I had posted/read any other posts! Inexcusable!

Thanks very much, Mark! I hope you have a great year as well and I look forward to reading more of your posts as well! (Sidenote: Do you think you could add your site onto your gravatar profile? It would make it much easier for people to find your blog). 🙂

  9. Welcome back PCC and well done on being a versatile ‘un. I applaud your approach to encouraging/bullying people to take their Christmas decorations down.

Virginia Woolf has an absurdly long face. It is probably the real cause of the Wikipedia blackout but they were too afraid to admit it and made up some nonsense about SOPA.

I checked out Dear Optimist and there was a cartoon about toilets and farts which is great.

    • Yes, I believe a strong approach is needed when bullying encouraging your neighbours to take down their Christmas decorations.

Virginia Woolf is the worst. Of course she’d be to blame for the blackout…everything terrible that happens is her fault. Even post-humously.

Dear Optimist is awesome. The site makes me laugh so much, and the cartoonists, Nadia even sent me a cartoon version of me during the Christmas holidays. How amazing is that? Maybe I’ll post it here sometime. 🙂

Thanks very much, Michael! I always appreciate your comments and sarcasm. It makes my day. 🙂

  10. My wife and I argue from time to time over who has the nicest eyes. Hers are a classical pale, steely blue. Mine are more like yours – they’re basically hazel, but the colors shift the longer you look at them. I totally win.

    • I always wanted to have steely blue eyes like my mom’s, but I don’t. Mine are a greenish-grayish colour on the exterior and then shift to blue, and then to green the closer you get to my pupil. I think that’s weird. But I’m glad I’m not the only one who has gobstopper eyes. I think our weird eyes win any eye contest…hands down. 😉

  11. Thanks! That’s one of the nicest things anybody ever said about me 😀 I’m laughing at #6, your media ADD. We’ve talked about this before, and I have a friend who is the same way. I’m so different and get a kick out of that one. As always, you rock.

    • It’s true. I’m a huge fan. I’d buy a poster of your face and then drive down to PA to get you to sign it. That’s not too blogger-stalkerish, is it? 😉

  12. 25 sportsattitudes

For me…I can’t sleep with the bedroom door closed…what are these vegetables you write of?…I have no musical instrument training to speak of…you know, I was just thinking when I awoke this morning I’d be looking into Gobstoppers – NOT!…now, who’s afraid of the big bad Woolf?…you will watch Alcatraz (just in 26 minute increments)…I’m not Vettel’s girlfriend either! Welcome back!

    • Weird…maybe I’m the only one who has to sleep with the door shut? I mean, everyone else seems to have the opposite problem!

Every morning that I wake up, I look in the mirror and see Gobstoppers. Every. Morning. I haven’t eaten a Gobstopper since I was 8 because they look like eyeballs to me…very unappetizing.

I haven’t had a chance to watch Alcatraz yet! Can’t wait though!! I mean, it’ll take me 2 or 3 days to actually get through the whole thing, but I’m pumped!

You’re not Vettel’s girlfriend? I could’ve sworn I saw your face on the cover of Us Weekly…

Thanks, Sports! Good to be back! 😉

  13. Grats! 🙂

  14. Congratulations pcc! This award couldn’t have gone to a more deserving person. You’ve been such a fun blogger to follow… I guess I’ve just become a huge fan, thus I couldn’t be happier for you. Not to sound redundant, but your award was so well deserved.

I can’t even tell you enough what it means for you to mention me on your blog. Seeing my name up there with the likes of Anne and Clay was really something.

Anne is a masterful writer. When I read her work, I’m always at least slightly entranced. It’s impressive how she captures her readers and effortlessly draws them into her imagination.

Educlation, I think, is THE quintessential blogger. The first time I saw his blog, I remember thinking, “This guy is a genius”.

So, I really do feel humbled up next to these guys, but grateful just the same 🙂

    Thanks again. You’re the best!

    • Aww…thanks! I don’t even know what to say after a nice comment like that! It’s a rather strange feeling, really…lol.

And I was more than happy to add you into my list of favourites, Dinkerson! You always leave such intelligent and witty comments here, and you also write fantastic content yourself!

As for Clay and Annie, I have no idea why they even follow this blog…they’re too talented to be wasting time reading what I’ve got to say.

As always, thanks for your very sweet words and encouragement…and for your own brilliant blog! 😀

  15. Oh dang, i was really waiting for a new post from you!. And yup you deserve that award, congratulations!!

And that not sleeping with the door open, LOL. I can’t sleep that way either, my mind sub-consciously keeps thinking that someone’s looking haha. Just recently i don’t know what was wrong with me, out of nowhere i decided to watch a horror movie (i never do ahem), and now i have to make sure the door is kept locked 😛

Also i enjoyed Dear Optimists, hilarious!

    • Wow…thanks very much, Ibrahim! I certainly don’t deserve it, but it’s nice to receive it nonetheless. 🙂

Yes, sleeping with your door open is just an open invitation for monsters and creepy people who sneak into your house to come into your room, steal your stuff, and stare at you while you sleep. It is imperative that you keep your door closed at all times…you don’t want those monsters to get ya.

Dear Optimists is amazing! They’re so funny and clever! I’m so glad you dropped by their site as well. 🙂

Thanks again, and I promise that I’ll start posting more often now that things are slowing down around here!

  16. Congrats! And your eyes rock!

  17. Congrats on your Versatility award. I’ve been silent longer than you and it’s about time for me to get back online.
Closed door for me too – no monsters, just draughts! Nice of you to promote your fellow bloggers, good karma.
    Keep ’em coming.

    • Well, it’s an award that I certainly don’t deserve. I don’t even know why people read anything I have to say…I think everyone just accidentally clicks on my link and then feels badly for me, so they read some of my posts and leave nice comments.

Thanks, Charlie! I really appreciate your kind words..and welcome back to the blogosphere! 😉
